University Bridge

The University Bridge in Malmö, designed by DISSING+WEITLING architecture, is part of the development of the inner harbour. The competition brief included considerations for one of Malmoe's landmarks, the historical lighthouse that marks the entrance to the harbour adjacent to Malmö's Central Rail Station.

In order to minimize the thickness of the bridge deck and maintain the open character of the harbour, the swing span was designed as a cable-stayed structure. The 77-metre long cable-stayed bridge rests on a hemispherical concrete pivot pier, which gives the impression of floating on the water. The two pylons are topped by lanterns in translucent acrylic. The integrated sidelights on the railing and crash barrier were designed in collaboration with Martin Architectural Lighting.

The University Bridge exemplifies an openable road, pedestrian and bicycle bridge that with its transparency respects Malmö's little landmark - The Lighthouse.

 

Universitetsbron

Universitetsbroen er en del af udviklingen af Malmøs indre havn. Blandt konkurrencekriterierne var hensyn et til et af Malmøs vartegn, det historiske fyrtårn, der markerer indsejlingen til havnebassinet nedenfor Centralstationen.

For at minimere brodækkets tykkelse og derved bevare den åbne havnekarakter, er broens oplukkelige felt udført som en skråstags drejekonstruktion. Den 77 meter lange skråstagsbro hviler på en drejepille i beton, hvis halvkugleformede hoved giver den karakter af at flyde på vandet. De to pyloners toppe er lanterner udført i glasblæst akryl. Autoværnets sidelys er designet i samarbejde med Martin Architectural.

Universitetsbroen i Malmø er et eksempel på en oplukkelig vej-, fodgænger- og cykelbro, der med sin transparens respekterer Malmøs lille vartegn Fyrtårnet.
