Copenhagen Towers

The first part of Dissing+Weitling’s Copenhagen Towers project, the 4-star Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers, Hotel and Conference Centre, opened on 16 November.

Copenhagen Towers, located in the Orestad quarter south of the Copenhagen old city centre, reinforces the identity not only of Copenhagen, but also the Oresund Region as an international centre for commerce. The three 85 m high towers located at the junction of the Oresund Link and the Metro, will form an imposing gateway to the Orestad South development.

The 72.500 m2 hotel and conference centre consists of the 25 story high rise building with 365 hotel rooms, reception and guest facilities on ground floor, on lower basement level the ball room for 800 people, the 7 story high conference centre and underground parking facilities covered with a landscaped park approach to the four star hotel. The 10 storey high building located to the south also designed by Dissing+Weitling encompass 9.500 m2 office facilities, which on ground and first floor are connected with a large spacious opening to the hotel and conference centre. The office facilities will be completed spring 2010 and will become the headquarters for the Confederation of Danish Industry.

Copenhagen Towers, have been planned as a sustainable project since the very first sketches. The masterplan is orientated towards the sun in such a way that daylight and views were optimized and risk of overheating reduced. The hotel tower floorplan itself was developed with daylight as an important parameter. The project has incorporated 2000 m2 Mono Crystalline solar cell panels within the facades, the largest facade incorporated solar cell power generating system in Northern Europe. The prosperous geological consistency made it possible to utilise the underground water and create Denmark’s first ground water based heating/cooling system. A system which have reduced energy consumption for heating/cooling by 88%.

In addition to the EU Green Building Certification and the Danish Building regulations low energy Class 2, the hotel is a CO2 Neutral building.
