Presentation of proposals for Dokken Tower in Esbjerg

Pedersen Gruppen has now made public the three design proposals for the Dokken Tower competition project – a four-star hotel and conference centre at Esbjerg docklands.

DISSING+WEITLING architecture – in collaboration with Pihl, Midtconsult and Dynamo Studio – has submitted a design proposal that combines references to the harbour and the industrial environment with welcoming and sophisticated design. The building carcase combines clear maritime lines with elements from the dockland’s industrial buildings in a new, expressive awareness. Modern, yet classic – timeless.

The use of driftwood-look oak, glass and raw concrete is repeated in the interior of the hotel – from the lobby and restaurant to the furnishing of the rooms. Always the juxtaposition of the gritty and the sophisticated.

The entire hotel concept encourages dialogue. Between sea and town. Between local and international. Between hotel guests and local inhabitants. In the same spirit the hotel has not yet been named; the project team is inviting a dialogue with the inhabitants of Esbjerg by asking for their suggestions for the name.

The Jyske Vestkysten newspaper is contributing to the dialogue by encouraging its readers to go to its website to vote for the project they prefer out of the three.
