IQ-HafenCity Hamborg

Together with six other international offices, Dissing+Weitling has been invited to participate in the Intelligent Quarters (IQ) competition, a project that will be realised on one of the most fascinating sites in HafenCity, Hamburg.

Green, clever and innovative
The IQ project comprises a university and office building, a residential complex and a 70-metre office tower. Floorage totalling an amazing 28,000 m² will be built on a corner site overlooking the Elbe in the Elbtorquartier of HafenCity.

The Elbtorquartier will be the busiest construction site in HafenCity until 2014, and with "residents" such as HafenCity University, Kühne Logistics University (a part of IQ), Greenpeace headquarters and designport hamburg, the Elbtorquartier has been dubbed the new innovative knowledge quarter of HafenCity. Sustainability is at the heart of the IQ project, and as the majority of the buildings in the area also comply with stringent sustainability requirements, the Elbtorquartier is expected to become a model example of green urban development.

Modernist architectural icons
Dissing+Weitling's relationship with Germany reaches back to the 1970s when our architects created a stir with projects such as the K20 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf and the IBM Centre in Hamburg - two projects which have since gained status as modernist architectural icons. Through the decades, the office has maintained its strong profile in Germany, and most recently headed up projects such as the Rheingoldhalle Convention Centre in Mainz, the Alte Nahebrücke in Bad Kreuznach and the extension of the K20.
