Stonecutters Bridge

Stonecutters Bridge is the result of an international design competition in year 2000. The bridge is a dual three-lane motorway bridge spanning the Rambler Channel in the port of Hong Kong with a cable-stayed main span of 1,000 metres.

The two single pylons are circular in cross section and rise to a height of 290-metre tall. The lower part is in concrete, the upper part is clad with stainless steel. The main span deck is an aerodynamically shaped twin-box steel girder, while the side spans, matching the main span girder are concrete.

At night the cross beams connecting the twin deck boxes are illuminated, creating the image of a ribbon of light spanning the harbour. The upper steel clad parts of the pylons have narrow illuminated slots and are topped by lanterns.

With its distinct design and monumental scale, the bridge has become a focal point in Hong Kong. Its simple design is intended to stand out with calm and serenity in the hustle and bustle of this great city.

Stonecutters-broen
