D+W designs bridge in Brazil

D+W is the architectural consultant on the prestigious bridge project, Salvador-Itaparica, in Brazil together with COWI, DK among others. The bridge is 11 km long and consist of a very spectacular main span with a height of 120 m and a length of 550 m. The large ground clearance is due to a request for sailing oil-drilling platforms under the bridge. Consequently, the pylons of the bridge will have a height of 285 m and be some of the highest pylons in the world. D+W has worked closely with the client to uncover regards to the local population and requirements from locale authorities. D+W’s role in the startup phase has been to define a design for the bridge that in addition to being economically possible also gives the city of Salvador an iconic structure.

For D+W it has been an exciting project, since this will be our first large project in South America.
