D+W and COWI have won a contract on an Indian extradosed bridge.
Together with COWI, D+W will develop the concept and design for the new bridge over the Hooghly River in India, close to Calcutta.
The bridge must be located close to an existing bridge, which is inadequate for the increasing traffic and must be relieved: the client, Rites Limited, has decided that the bridge should be an extradosed bridge, which is a relatively new bridge type in India. The bridge will be located close to Kalyani city, which has been appointed an example for future development in the region, where several educational institutions such as Institute of Medical Science are on their way to be established.
The bridge is part of a longer stretch and from the client’s side it is a desire that the bridge will be a significant long term landmark for the whole area.
This is another example of a D+W project that demonstrate the versatility of the firm and presence in more than 20 countries.
