This weekend saw the official opening of Sofiero Footbridge. Located in the popular park of Sofiero Castle near Helsingborg, the slender curved steel bridge will give visitors an enhanced experience of the beautiful castle gardens.
The Sofiero Footbridge – aka Sofia’s Bridge – is a light and almost transparent S-curved steel construction, elegantly floating above a rhododendron-filled ravine. The bridge has taken its S-shape from the winding pathways in the romantic park, making the crossing into a delightful event with shifting perspectives of the lush surroundings.
The slender 57-metre footbridge is one of the smallest bridges DISSING+WEITLING has ever designed, but it was nonetheless challenging. Schlaich Bergerman Partner was our structural engineers on the project and it was constructed and installed by Bladt Industries, the main contractor.
Every year, thousands of visitors come to Sofiero to enjoy the flowering beauty, the royal tradition and the wonderful views over Øresund. At the opening, the bridge held more than 200 people at the same time.
