Metro Line 18

Three metro stations and a 14-kilometer viaduct make up the extension of metro line 18, which moves through a beautiful, green landscape near Plateau de Saclay in the outskirts of Paris. The metro stations and viaducts appear as elegant and organic structures that dovetail seamlessly with the landscape. At the same time, the almost futuristic metro stations work as strong architectural elements – both discrete yet significant landmarks.

DISSING+WEITLING architecture’s vision was to make the structures as light and transparent as possible to create a symbiotic connection between the metro stations and viaducts and the untouched, idyllic landscape. Additionally, the lightness of the viaducts is a means to preserve the rich biodiversity of the area by having a minimal imprint.

Together with Silvio d’Ascia Architecture, we sought to create an aesthetic continuity between the viaducts and metro stations to give the new metro line a cohesive visual identity.
