Lundbeck Bygning N

Lundbeck Building N

DISSING+WEITLINGs transformation of Building N, creates new flexible workspace that will be the outspring for the development and launch of new products in the near future and many years to come. It will be a team based environment - a center for innovation beyond compare, based on knowledge, creativity, persistence, and vision. New work methods, evolving group dynamics, and an ever-developing strategy will be supported within the physical framework of this reinvented structure.

The buildings placement in the Lundbeck Valby campus marks a strategic focus point for the collaborative effort that new product launches represent. It will strengthen the campus identity, and bring focus to what Lundbeck is all about.
It’s not a “public building” in this sense, the innovation center can play an active role in animating the surrounding context, making visible and expressing the pulsing activity and synergy within. This is the drive that assures the continuing development of the company.

It has been a significant element in the design process to find a way to weave all the various activities and levels within the building together into an ever-changing patchwork of activity. By organizing the flexible office plates around a central activity/circulation room, we assure that there are constant connections between the various levels/groups.
This organization allows the individual groups to function on open, flexible floor plans without circulation corridors that become a highway for movement through the building, thus creating potential unproductive interruptions. The open atrium, creates an inviting atmosphere.

The level of activity and interaction increases as one moves from the end of the office areas toward the middle of the plan. More quiet and private areas and core functions are located at the north and south ends of the building, with semi-public spaces at interaction areas placed in and around the central atrium. This organization allows for a visual connection and open feeling from one end of the building to the other, reinforcing the feeling of a common identity and goal.
It also allows the teams a level of immersion and deep focus. Contraction and expansion - flexibility being the key word.

The overall areas and depth of the building are optimized to insure that there are both spaces for contemplation as well as interpretation.
